On a warm day, after a long and chilly winter, you turn on your carâs air conditioner only to find a steady stream of warm air flowing out. After months of neglect, you hope that the air conditioner can be revived in time to deal with yet another hot summer. This is a common problem for car owners but it can be solved very easily.Â
There are two things you can do to keep your carâs air conditioner in good working order. You can turn the air conditioner on for a few minutes every month to keep the compressor lubricated and you can recharge the air conditioner once warm air starts flowing out.Â
The easiest and safest way to have your air conditioner recharged is to have a mechanic do it. However, it is possible to do it yourself with a few special tools. Youâll need a good set of goggles, a thick pair of gloves, a recharging kit and a can of refrigerant. Some recharging kits provide a pressurized can of refrigerant with a pressure gauge built into the cap; this type of kit is the easiest to work with. You should avoid spilling the refrigerant and getting it into your eyes or on your skin because it can cause instant frostbite.Â
With that in mind, the first step is determining what type of refrigerant youâll need. There are two choices: R12 and R134a. R12 refrigerant is used only in cars that were manufactured before 1994 and is no longer on the market. If you have an older car, you can use recycled R12 but it would be much easier to have your system professionally switched to R134a; do not mix the different types of refrigerant.Â
STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO RECHARGING YOUR CARâS AIR CONDITIONER:Â
1- Safety first: put on your safety goggles and gloves.Â
2- Assemble the recharge kit as mentioned in the kit instructions; this may involve attaching a hose and a valve to the can of refrigerant or something similar.Â
3- Check the car manual to locate the low pressure port. The hose will usually only fit on that port; the high pressure port is a different size.Â
4- Wipe the outside of the low pressure port before you open it to prevent any kind of material from getting inside.Â
5- Attach the hose to the low pressure port.Â
6- Start the car and turn the air conditioner onto the highest setting. You should get an accurate pressure reading after a few minutes.Â
7- Pierce the can as instructed by the kit and add the refrigerant through the low pressure port. You may need to detach and reattach parts at this point; follow the kit instructions carefully.Â
8- Check the pressure gauge as you add the refrigerant. The kit instructions should tell you how much to add; if not, check the car manual.Â
9- Remove the hose as instructed by the kit instructions.Â
10- Add the cap to the lower pressure point.
Itâs a good idea to keep the pressure gauge kit for future recharging. For a detailed step by step guide with photos, please visit: http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/AC-recharge.htm

As a complicated mechanical instrument, compressors are made of several critical parts and most of the compressor parts can be easily found and exchanged quite conveniently. Generally, any destruction to parts such as the pistons and gas tank needs an entire replacement instantly.
The parts exterior to a compressor are the gas tanks, the frame, and the Gas Compression module. Other optional compressor parts that are visible outside are the wheels, handlebars, and electricity cables. Despite the fact, that these are the most exposed to external factors, these parts do not need regular replacement. This is for the simple reason, that normal function of the compressor are not affected even after a longer span of time.
Most of the Interior Compressor Parts are based within the module of compression .Some of the most crucial compressor parts are the rotary screw, rotary vane, portable pistons, springs, shocks, forks, metallic or plastic rims, and stands. Compressor parts require regular replacement for reasons such as physical destruction caused to a compressor part.
The mechanical device of a Gas compression is capable of storing huge quantities of gas within a tank that has a very small volume. There are different types of gas compressors that comprise several capabilities and properties. The main usage of gas compressors are for the homes, small and big organizations with major industries and functional area.
If there is no major usage, most organizations choose a minor unit to mount on a truck, giving ample space for other tools and instruments. Compressor repair is normally regraded a very tedious job, but you need to repair it on time to avoid any unnecessary hassles in the future. The gas in the compressor part occupies a huge space, as it is forced to stay inside by the compressor. The compressors of gas attain the highest rate of compression that even a small damage in the compressor tank would lead to a big blast.
Generally, Compressor Services are available at affordable rates. The essential compressor parts of gas are the gas turbines, jet engines, water turbines, steam turbines, petrol engines, and automobile superchargers. Whenever you buy a compressor part, you must not confuse between the natural gas Air Compressors and gas compressors. A careful analysis of the the intended application of the compressor is crucial prior to the purchasing of gas compressors. It is of utmost importance to ascertain what the compressor is costing to you over its life. For more details on compressor parts, do log on to sec-ep.com .

i have a 8′6” inflatable boat that is built and is basically the same thing as a zodiac. i need to inflate it to 13 psi and have broken it’s included foot pump and am struggling with a hand pump that is about to break. i dont like the idea too much but how do you guys use Air Compressors to inflate a boat (if with halkey-roberts valves, even better)? also what things or parts specifically do you have. try to explain it to someone who doesn’t know what to use.
I just use a normal workshop compressor with an air duster nozzle, and use some duct or silver tape to make a bit of a seal on the end of the foot pump hose. Connect the hose to the valve, stick the nozzle in the other end and blow the thing up. Don’t overdo it of course but it really is quick and simple.
Ok I need to know the name of a specific part of the air conditioning compressor for a car. (It is for a 98 Toyota Tercel). I only need the piece that actually holds the compressor in place. It is like a cradle sort of thing held in with screws.. I need a new one and the store doesnt have it so I want to find it online but need the name… Thanks so much!!
COMPRESSOR BRACKET OR COMPRESSOR HOLD DOWN BRACKET.
I have a MotoMaster 5-gallon air compressor. I need to fill the part with oil so that it is inbetween the red circle. I have already used one bottle, and it is barely half way there. This is my first air compressor, so how much oil do i need to put in for the first time?
It depends and it should tell you in the manual. But get more oil and fill it to where it should be and start er up.
Happy New Year
Can I buy it used from a junkyard or is it something I should buy new from an auto parts store?
You should be able to find one in a junk yard, but if you can’t, try eBay. I had good luck finding used items that were dealer-only parts

I got tired of spending $10+ a month on canned air, so I bought an Air Compressor and the nozzle attachment with a trigger.
I was told not to allow the compressor to shoot out too much air because it may damage the computer parts.
What is a safe level to set the compressor (PSIs)?
This is too good a question to pass up, so here goes,
You either have a thousand computers to clean or you are in a terrible location (dust wise).
So I figgered, heck, you can always use the compressor to use a pneumatic jackhammer when the dust gets so packed that ya gotta use it to loosen the petrified dust.
Talk about over stocking mechanical supplies for something simpler.
That’s like getting a bulldozer to dig a small hole in the sand.
