I’m looking to buy a used compressor from Craigslist. I see a lot of brands that I’ve never heard of. What brands are reputable? The only ones I recognize are Craftsman and Porter Cable.
Newer Craftsmen compressors have given me problems. (Loud, underpowered, cheap parts)
Porter Cable is decent, but I tend to think of them less powerful/smaller - better for a staple gun than an impact wrench.
look at Ingersol Rand - one name brand that has been in the air tool business for a long time. expensive, but seems to be of good quality.
in my experience you really do get what you pay for when it comes to an air compressor.

Depending on the level of air purity required, different levels of filtration and types of filters are used. Filters are used in
conjunction with other “filtering equipment” - such as a Water Separator or Compressed Air Dryer- to help remove harmful contaminates from your system.

General Purpose Filters - also called “particulate filters” are used to remove solid particles. Oil and Oil Vapor Removal
Filters - also called “coalescing-type filters” are used to remove oil and vapors.

A particulate filter is recommended after a desiccant-type dryer to remove desiccant fines.
A coalescing-type filter is recommended before a desiccant type dryer to prevent fouling of the desiccant bed.
Additional filtration may also be needed to meet requirements for specific end uses.
Compressed air filters downstream of the air compressor are generally required for the removal of contaminants, such as particulates, condensate, and lubricant.

Maximum Efficiency Oil Removal Filter
Installation: Prefilter to desiccant and membrane dryers with a Grade C prefilter, oil-free air applications.
Design: Two-stage filtration with a first stage of a coated, closed-cell foam sleeve which acts as a prefilter and flow disperser. Second stage has in-depth coalescing fiber media which coalesces fine oil aerosols. Includes an outer coated, closed cell foam sleeve.
Performance*: Handles bulk liquid water inlet loads to 100 ppm w/w and provides 0.0008 ppm oil aerosol removal and 0.01 micron solid particulate separation.

Oil Vapor Removal Filter
Installation: Afterfilter to high efficiency liquid oil removal filters for true oil-free applications.
Design: Two-stage filtration with a generously-sized first stage of a stabilized bed of carbon particles which remove the majority of the oil vapor. Second stage has multiple layers of fiber media with bonded microfine carbon particles which remove the remaining oil vapors. Includes an outer-coated, closed cell foam sleeve which prevents fiber migration.
Performance**: No liquid should be present at filter inlet. Provides 0.003 ppm w/w oil (as a vapor) removal and 0.01 micron solid particulate separation.

Filtration only to the level required by each compressed air application will minimize pressure drop and resultant energy consumption.
Elements should also be replaced as indicated by pressure differential to minimize pressure drop and energy consumption, and should be checked at least annually.

ISO 8573.1 was developed in 1992 by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) to help plant engineers specify desired compressed air quality globally by providing âQuality Classesâ for solid particulates, humidity and oil. Quality classes provide engineers with an internationally accepted unit of measure.

A typical pharmaceutical plant, for example, would have a compressed air specification of ISO Quality Classes 1.2.1. This is equivalent to 0.1 micron particulate filtration, -40°F (-40°C) dew point, and 0.008 ppm (0.01 mg/m3) oil filtration. No matter what language is spoken and what unit of measure is used, using ISO 8573.1 Air Quality Classes ensures that your factory will get the compressed air quality you specified.

I have 2 Air Compressors and i was just wondering is there a valve where i can link the 2 of them together for more compression? if so what is it called?

Sounds potentially dangerous. Will any of the equipment such as hoses, tanks etc. be able to handle the extra pressure? Do you really need more pressure or more capacity? Are you seeking to run tools requiring more volume, like Impact wrenches or paint equipment or are you trying to run a jack hammer? Please be aware of repercussions before proceeding.
I am looking at buying a air compressor and harbor freight is the cheapest and the best it seams they sale this brand called central pneumatic. The air compressor is 21 gallons and is a 3hp motor. It also has a 7 scfm @ 40 and a 4.9 @ 90 and a 4.3 @ 115 is this a good air compressor from harbor freight. Or should i stay away from the brand.
This is a very good product. I have many tools by this brand and never had any problems at all. I also have an air compressor and it works great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I have 2 portable Air Compressors, 1 is working the other is not. can I connect them together in series to salvage the tank from the non working one?
Their is only one place to connect to air line the other has a purge valve that could be removed, would that become the inlet?
Yes, this is very doable. Although, it will require some modifying. When you’re done, you’ll have both tanks full of compressed air, ready to go.
I have a two stage IR STATIONARY AIR COMPRESSOR 13HP. When its cold at night the air compressor pressure goes very slow even when i release all the air and water in the condensation tank. The pressure that comes out of the air lines to move the air tool is so slow that the air tool does not move. How do i solve this problem when I am working in the cold weather.
Check to see if your regulator is frozen or damaged. You can do this by taking it off, and connecting the hose with out it.
