When your home cannot accommodate a traditional air conditioner, you live in an apartment building or you need cooling for your computer server room a portable air conditioner is the perfect appliance. They are useful in a variety of situations and settings. You don’t have to deal with costly central cooling systems or ineffective fans and portable air conditioners are truly portable. They can be moved from one area to the next and require little to no installation and maintenance. Sometimes there may be a problem with your portable air conditioner. Before turning to a professional, why not save money by troubleshooting the problems yourself? Here are some common issues and the solutions:

1.       Your Portable Air Conditioner Won’t Start

-          Make sure your power cord is plugged in correctly and undamaged.

-          Check wall plug and circuit breaker. Reset the circuit breaker at the box. Change the socket or outlet.

-          If neither of these solutions work, take it to a qualified electrician and have the fuse replaced.

2.       Your Portable Air Conditioner Stops Operating on its Own

-          Make sure the timer is not on.

-          Make sure the temperature in the room is not lower than the set temperature.

-          Wait until the room temperature rises to operate unit.

3.       Your Portable Air Conditioner Won’t Cool

-          Remove the grill and clean the filter.

-          Check the evaporator and condenser coils for clogs.

-          If neither of these are the problems, the fan motor may be blown or the compressor is malfunctioning so professional help is necessary.

4.       Your Portable Air Conditioner Won’t Cool in Dehumidification Mode

-          Check for excess frost on evaporator or coils. If present, allow defrosting to take place.

-          To prevent ice buildup, clean the dirty air filters. Also, in weather conditions colder than 60 degrees, defrost the coil by turning the selector switch to the fan position and let it run until the ice melts.

5.       Your Portable Air Conditioner Is Not Providing Enough Cooling

-          Keep in mind that portable air conditioners should be used for supplemental cooling and for small areas like bedrooms or living rooms.

-          Make sure you have the right sized portable air conditioner. They are sized by BTU rating. If the BTUs are too high the unit will cycle off too quickly. If the BTUs are too low, the unit will not adequately cool the area.

-          Excessive sunlight and extremely low or high ambient temperatures can also affect the cooling capacity.

that stuff is for emergency use. when you put a liquid inside your tire, it will make it out of balance. and it is disgusting to fix. People who use that kinda stuff should be kicked in the groin when they bring it to a garage to be fixed later on by someone else.

put a spare on, or fix/replace the tire.

I, after 2 years, managed to convince my dad to let me make a pneumatic cannon. The only problem is, I can’t use his giant air compressor, but I can use a portable air tank. I don’t have one, but was wondering if I could use 6 or 8 1′6" long tubes of 2-3" pvc pipe in junction to make a good enough air tank for maybe 3 or 4 good shots. I could use a little 12 volt air pump to pump it up using a schrader valve. Would this work well? The intended projectile is a tennis ball and the planned air cannon uses a piston valve.

12 volts car pump shall not able to product more than 50 lb. You air cannon need more than 100 lb air pressure. You may get this high press air free from some gas station if you have an air tank.
Or you can make your own compressor taken out from old fridge or air conditioner. It can pump up more than 100 lb easily.

i want to build a portable gas powered air compressor ( i have already buildt a 60g 110v air compressor for home that works just fine no problems). on regular compressor you plug them inick, turn on the switch and thats it. compressor starts shuts off at regulated psi. while using compressor, pump and starter cuts in at regulated psi. by itself repetes over to keep regulated psi in tank. well if tou have to pull a draw string to start a gas powered compressor and it starts compressing air. what happens when it reaches desired psi or when pressure drops and has to fill up again. do i have to manually start this thing every timepsi gets psi gets low ? or how does it start again without me having to manualy start it? or does it stay running all the time? do i need any special or different valves or something? or just HOW DOES IT WORK?

Not sure what the industry standard is but if you are using a positive displacement compressor you either have to recycle the gas or vent it to the atmosphere. If recycling the gas then once the discharge pressure has reached its setpoint a recycle valve opens recycling gas back to the suction of the compressor, you will need an after-cooler to cool the gas prior to entering the suction or the compressor will overheat on discharge temp and/or oil temp causing damage to the internals. If you bypass the gas to atmosphere you will need a regulator and a good muffler, its going to be noisy.

Ive never seen a gas air compressor turn on and off depending on pressure, maybe they disengage the compressor with a clutch but Im not sure.

I have a Craftsmen portable 125psi 1hp 4gal air compressor. Recently, I haven’t been able to get compression. It seems like the seal is broken. Any thought?

Take it back to Sears, they warranty just about everything.

Could someone recommend a reliable, Portable Air Compressor for carrying in the car?

I have a 2005 Scion xA (little 15" tires), and live in an area where I am more prone to picking up nails & screws (lots of construction, etc). I have a spare (donut), but don’t want to have that as my only back-up (this past weekend, I had one flat on the way to work, and after changing it to the spare I noticed a second tire was also going flat - I assumed I had picked up multiple screws on the road - so it was a frustrating situation!)

I’d like something that I can use if I get stuck on the highway, etc, and have to do an emergency tire inflation. Something that I can clip to the battery (or perhaps plus in the lighter- though I know that’s not as desirable!) and fill my tire up rather easily.

I’ve been browsing Amazon.com for a while, but everything has such mixed reviews. Not sure what to choose. I am willing to pay up to $75, maybe more. Doesn’t really matter.

Suggestions??

Thanks!!

Also thinking perhaps a portable emergency power system thing might be a better way to go? One of those rechargeable packs that allows you to jumpstart a vehicle, or inflate tires, etc. Obviously most of these are more expensive, but I am willing to invest in something dependable that will help alleviate any stress from emergency car situations!

I really appreciate your advice!!!
I do have a couple cans of Fix-A-Flat - just for those puncture situations, but using that also requires you to add extra air to your tires (read the instructions on the can!) to ensure they are properly inflated. Thanks for the tip!!

Rather than purchasing an air compressor, which by the way will not cure your problem, get yourself a couple of cans of "Fix-A-Flat" for emergency use. An air compressor is only going to put air in your tire which will escape due to the puncture, while "Fix-A-Flat" will seal the puncture until you can get to a place to get the tire fixed. Also, since your problem is ongoing, why not check into getting some new tires that are puncture resistant. I know that Goodyear Tires makes some of these particular tires and they are great.
